What is the Nutrient Composition of Alfalfa?

Alfalfa has a nutrient-rich composition, which makes it an ideal feed option for your horse. It contains high levels of protein, calcium, and micronutrients such as copper, zinc, and manganese. Additionally, it's rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K, as well as B-complex vitamins.

One pound of alfalfa hay can provide up to 14% crude protein, which is higher than most grass hays that contain only 6-8% protein. It also contains high levels of calcium, which is essential for bone development and maintenance in horses. Alfalfa is also a good source of energy, with a digestible energy value of 1.2-1.5 Mcal/lb, compared to grass hay, which has a digestible energy value of 0.8-1.1 Mcal/lb.
